Monogrammed lower right, 'F.G.' for Frederick Goodall (British, 1822-1904) and dated 1888; additionally accompanied verso by a Fine Art Society label. Framed in a raw silk mat within a carved gilt-wood frame. Frame dimensions: 27.5''H x 23.5''W x 1.25''D Born in London, Frederick Goodall studied painting under his father, a silver line engraver, and at the Wellington Road Academy. Much of his work was inspired by his many visits to Egypt. Goodall was the recipient of many prizes and medals and juried awards including the silver medal of the Society of Arts. Frederick Goodall's paintings are held in the permanent collections of numerous national museums, including the Tate Gallery, the Royal Academy in London and the Guildhall Art Gallery. Goodall exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1839–1902. He was elected Associate of the Royal Academy in 1852, and to full membership in 1863.
