Charlie Hewitt is a multi-dimensional artist who is first and foremost a communicator of ideas. He is a thinker and an emotional person who is skilled in the arts of printmaking, painting, sculpture, and especially drawing. No matter what he's creating, an abstract painting, a figurative piece, or a sculpture, everything begins with a drawing. Here's a quote from Charlie describing his early years in New York at his Bleeker Street studio in 1969, " I found myself swimming in an amazing world of new ideas". Everywhere he went he was stimulated by the wild, twenty-four hour energy he was surrounded by. He was constantly experimenting with different mediums, bold colors and lines, and transmitting his raw emotion and energy onto the canvases and prints he created. This print is from his 1980's possibly representing some inner turmoil, or depicting his connection to the spirit world, in bold colors with black. You can feel his emotion in this piece.
