An abstract gouache painting by American artist George S. Coggeshall (1914-1994). This painting depicts a colorful tangle of shapes against an abstracted beach landscape. The painting has an estate stamp verso to painting that can be viewed by removing frame backing. The painting is displayed in a white mat and a silver tone wooden frame. Born in Elgin, Illinois, Coggeshall served as an artist and illustrator for the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Chicago where he studied at the American Academy of Art and the Mizen Art Academy. He went on to become a successful commercial artist working for Meyercord Decal where he had well known clients such as RC Cola, Nehi, and Phillip Morris.
