Approximate plate dimensions 10.5" wide x 8" high Approximate paper dimensions 11.25" wide x 8.5" high Up for sale is a beautiful and rare Old Master print attributed to or after the celebrated Dutch Golden Age artist Adriaen van de Velde (1636–1672). Known as one of the premier Dutch Italianate landscape painters and printmakers, van de Velde’s work perfectly captures the tranquil, idyllic harmony of rural life. This beautifully detailed scene depicts a reclining man and woman resting under the shade of a prominent tree along a country road. They are accompanied by their faithful dog and a small herd of cattle, showcasing van de Velde’s legendary mastery of animal anatomy and peaceful pastoral atmospheres. This piece features two crucial elements highly prized by antiquarian print collectors: The Watermark: Visible when held to the light, the chain-laid paper features a distinct antique watermark depicting a flying figure (a man with prominent hands and feet) holding a banner. This is an incredible aid for dating the paper stock to the 17th or 18th century. The Collector’s Mark: The reverse (verso) features a small, stamp-inked red collector's mark, indicating it was once part of a private estate or specialized print connoisseur's cabinet Trimmed close to or just outside the plate line, leaving healthy margins (Paper size: 11.25" x 8.5"). The paper shows authentic age, characteristic of hand-laid antique paper. No major tears or compromises to the main image area. Please review the high-resolution photographs carefully to evaluate the condition, margins, and foxing/toning. A fine opportunity.
