After many years I am back into doing monoprinting and monotypes. The lack of control is very addicting. Each is created using glass or a gell plate. They are spontaneous and exciting because the artist has some but limited control-and that’s the best part. I have a whole study going using drawings of plants found in my yard, these two are from agaves. A monotype uses a glass or gell plate, the artist paints on the plate then presses the plate onto paper. The paper is carefully pulled off the plate to reveal a brand new one of a kind image that can not be repeated. The dampness of the paper, the pressure applied to the paper all affects the final image. I really enjoy the unpredictability, the blending of colors and the paint contact with the paper. I used beautiful tea stained handmade paper to create these monotype. More are coming! This one used vinyl paint with deep sepia annd black tones with a and gold emulsion.
