Student of Victor Prouvé and Friant, he attended the Decorative Arts of Paris. He worked for many years in Lorraine, staying at Laître-sous-Amance. He settled in Paris after the war. He painted mainly landscapes and after a stay in Morocco he reported many views of cities in this country and gained recognition among the painters "orientalist". His paintings showing at the Salon of French Artists and the Salon des Independants from 1909 to 1930 got overwhelming reviews from critics and collectors. He exhibited at the Salon of Nancy for several years. He was linked to Eugene Corbin, who acquired a number of his works. Horel is considered as one of the most noted landscape and Orientalist Lorrain painter of his generation. His work are held in many collections in France and worldwide.
