$233

Ibis is a modern artwork realized in 1870 by the British artist Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917). Woodcut print on ivory-colored paper. Hand-colored, published by London, Bell & Sons, 1870. The name of the bird is printed on the plate. This work is part of a print suite realized for F. O. Morris after drawings by Richard Alington, to create an inventory of British Birds. Good general conditions with some foxing and very bright and vivid colors. Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917) was a British watercolor artist, illustrator and engraver of natural history and landscape. He worked for the printer Benjamin Fawcett, where he had been an apprentice from an early age. He collaborated on a large number of works with Rev. Francis Orpen Morris who wrote the text. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
