This is just a great original piece. I bought this work because I really like monotypes. Referred to as the painterly print, I have always been confused by it being referred to at all as a print. Monotypes are wonderful one of a kind paintings. When I bought this and then did research I was excited to figure out that this was by important art instructor and curator allan marsh. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This very well could be one of the artist's last work as he passed the following year. This is a stunning watercolor monotype painting of a landscape vista with homes in the distance against the beautiful blue sky with clouds. Rich original color as it was created by the artist. Image measures 7 x 10 1/2 inches. Signed, dated, and notated in pencil below the image. The work is archival taped at the top into original matte. The matte is in a cheap gold frame with a plastic front that shows some scrapes. Really this work deserves an excellent frame. Do your own research on the artist and his work. They very rarely come to market and one of the only one I have found is in the permanent collection of the phillips collection. Frame measures 16 1/4 x 20 1/4 inches. For those not familair with the artist his biography from his obituary reads: "Allan Thomas Marsh, 67, a veteran art professor at Montgomery College and former chairman of his department, died of a heart attack Sept. 30 at Washington Adventist Hospital. He lived in Takoma Park. Mr. Marsh began at the college in Takoma Park in 1964 and later moved to the Rockville campus, where he began the art department. He was chairman for 10 years and taught painting, drawing, design and art history. His monotypes and paintings in oils, egg tempera and watercolors were exhibited in galleries including the Corcoran, Strathmore Hall, Art Barn and Gallery K and in public buildings across the area. Mr. Marsh was a native of Washington and a graduate of Eastern High School. He studied art with Leon Berkowitz and graduated from American University, where he also received a master's degree in fine arts. He received a doctorate in American studies from the University of Maryland.He was a curatorial assistant at the Phillips Collection and the museum of the Daughters of the American Revolution early in his career. He also taught art at Annandale High School and in Montgomery County schools. Mr. Marsh was co-founder of the Old Takoma Park Citizens Association and a leader of Project Turnaround, which helped restore housing in the city. He also was a member of the Save Takoma Park Committee, a vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington and a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church, also in the District "
