Initially, he created images of austrian landscapes such as the alps or the wine-growing village of senftenberg, where he often spent his summer holidays. He also stayed in hinterbrühl, where four of his six children were born. After his study trips to italy in the 1920s, his focus increasingly turned to mediterranean coastal landscapes, including views of naples, capri and san remo. Like some other landscape painters, arnegger tried to satisfy the society, which was shaken by industrialisation and wars, and to revive its longing for an ideal world and intact nature (e.g. ‘alpine romanticism’), which also helped him to achieve fame in the end. One of his sons, gottfried arnegger (1908-1943), was also a painter. Condition: very good original condition, few signs of age-related wear.
