An original oil painting on canvas by Arthur Dudley (Giovanni Barbaro), an Italian/British artist 1864-1915, "An English Pastoral" scene of three people in front of a farm house, a punt in the river in front of them, hay stacks and a cart to their left, wooded area beyond, the river runs to the background with a field to the right and a distant wooden bridge, signed A. Dudley in the lower right corner front, 14" x 21", CA number 3944, CA purchase from a British auction house winter of 2024. This painting was probably executed during the early part of the 20th century. The work has been cleaned and varnished, is framed with 2 1/2" Abe Munn Carlo Moratti reproduction gold moulding. Barbaro was born in Amalfi, Italy and in mid-life moved to England. He painted still life fruit and floral watercolor scenes under his real name but would paint English scenes under the name - Arthur Dudley. His works were exhibited at the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Academy and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
