Chairish$2,400
Museum quality pair of late 18th C French copper engravings depicting refined outdoor musical gatherings, beautifully presented in matching antique mats and frames. Titled La Partie de Musique ("The Music Party") and Le Concert Agréable ("The Pleasant Concert"), these charming compositions capture the grace and leisure of pre-Revolutionary French society. Rich in period detail and romantic atmosphere, the engravings lend warmth and sophistication to traditional and European-inspired interiors. Their soft palette and balanced compositions also pair beautifully with collected, layered spaces, libraries, music rooms, formal living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and elegant gallery walls. Displayed together, they create a striking focal point while celebrating the enduring connection between music, art, and refined entertaining. Ideal for collectors of antique prints, lovers of French decorative arts, musicians, or anyone drawn to classical interiors and historic European design. The engravings are after paintings by Swedish artist Nicolas Lavreince (1737–1807), who was active in both Paris and Stockholm. They were engraved by Vincent Marie Langlois le Jeune and Charles Nicolas Varin (1741–1812). They are inscribed as follows: La Partie de Musique Peint par Lavreince. Gravé par V. Langlois le Jeune. Le Concert Agréable Peint par Lavrince Peintre du Roi de Suede et la Acad. Rle. de Stokolm. Gravé par C. N. Varin. Other examples of these engravings are held in the collections of major museums, including the Musée du Louvre, the National Gallery of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others. They come ready to display with matching antique mats and frames. In very good condition with minor age toning and imperfections as shown.
