Antique 18th century neoclassical print by Sir William Hamilton taken from Greek & Etruscan vases. Presented in ebonized wood frame. Measures 25" x 15 1/4" framed and 14 3/8" x 9 3/4" sight. We have companion aquatints listed, similarly framed to hang together. Even toning with age. Wear to frame and mat. Presents well. Sir William Hamilton (1730-1803) was British ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples. During his time in Italy, Hamilton was fascinated with the excavations at Pompei and Herculaneum. He became an avid collector of Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities, including antique vases. He published engravings of his new collection before the vases were sent to the British Museum.
