This contemporary looking chromolithograph (each color laid in with a separate lithographic stone) by Ernst Haeckel depicts micro and macroscopic sea creatures. It were actually printed in the late 19th century. Printed on one side only. These images have the feel of abstract surreal creations. Haeckel's forms are often borrowed by designers of fabric, etc. Once you notice, you will see Haeckel's designs in many places. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (German 1834 – 1919) was a German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology.
