Antique Beautiful Floral Oil Painting 20th Century Florals

Chairish

$1,000

For many years, artist Tawny Chatmon sourced ornate historic frames from estate sales, auctions, private sellers, marketplaces, and forgotten interiors, often removing the original paintings to reposition her own sitters within them. Works such as this one were carefully held onto and are now being offered individually, unframed, to collectors who may wish to bring them into a new home and setting. Signed “M. Spickler” in the lower right corner, this likely oil-on-canvas painting depicts a beautiful arrangement of golden yellow and soft white flowers gathered in a vase set upon a tabletop. The piece holds a painterly immediacy, while muted sage greens, smoky taupes, cream tones, and warm ochres create a softened, atmospheric palette throughout. The blooms spill outward organically across the composition, contrasted with quieter still-life elements, including a pale green bowl and a stack of objects resting nearby. The flowers appear to be chrysanthemum-like. The back label, which appears to be the framers label reads "Gifts that last WM. Boone Mullen" with an art stamp beside it. There is also a date on the label that reads 10/16/41 which seems to indicate the date the work was framed, vs. when it was painted. The surface displays visible texture and expressive brushwork characteristic of oil paint, with areas of age-related wear, scuffing, edge abrasion, discoloration, and some paint loss and cracking, consistent with works of this age. The unframed canvas retains a quiet patina and studio-like presence.
