Antique Oil on Board Painting after Henry James Richter's "The Village School in an Uproar,” Circa Late 19th - Early 20th Century. A comical rendition of Henry Richter’s original work from the early 19th century, the characters take on an almost animated quality, their faces reduced in detail. A genre painting in style, the work shows a large group of school boys engaged in every form of mischief from pouring ink on another student, flipping over furniture to fighting and crude drawings on the walls. We’ve caught the children mid-rampage with their teacher just entering the scene, interrupting the chaos. The rendering of the teacher’s face looks almost devilish here. The details included in this lively work are surprising, from titled books, visible words on paper strewn about, to a small village structure in the distance within the open window. Framed in a gilt gesso + wood frame. Unsigned. Specs: 27 3/8" W | 21" H | 1 1/2" D of Frame Including Hardware | 23 1/4" W of Art | 17" H of Art
