A beautiful antique religious oil painting depicting the Madonna and Child in a traditional devotional composition associated with the Peruvian Cusco School (Escuela Cuzqueña). This painting has remained in my family's collection for over seventy years and was acquired in Peru many decades ago. Family tradition has long identified the work as a colonial-era Cusco School painting, possibly dating to the late 18th or 19th century. However, no formal authentication has been obtained, and it is offered as attributed. The composition displays many characteristics associated with colonial Andean religious painting, including richly decorated garments with gilt embellishment, floral motifs, radiant halos, and the distinctive devotional imagery that made the Cusco School famous throughout South America. The work remains housed in an old carved and gilded frame that exhibits age-related wear consistent with long-term use and display. The painting itself shows natural craquelure, surface wear, and areas of age-related condition typical of antique works of this period. A family photograph taken over 30 years ago shows the painting hanging prominently in our home, providing documented family provenance and demonstrating its long history within our collection. Whether acquired by a collector of Latin American colonial art, religious art, or historic decorative interiors, this is a striking and visually important piece with substantial presence.
