The state of preservation is good with small miss of paper on the margins. The artwork representing a man's portrait is created by precise and confident strokes, which indicate a deep look of thinking man through intense black by mastery in chiaroscuro. Auguste Danse (1829-1929) is a Belgian designer, painter and aquafortis, In 1871, he became a professor of drawing at the Academy of Mons, a member of the Circle of Belgian aquafortis, member of the jury of admission to the Society of Belgian Aquafortists and member of the Royal Academy of Belgium in 1905. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
