Lefor Openo is the pseudonym of two French illustrators, Marie-Claire Lefort and Marie-Francine Oppeneau, who met in Paris in 1950 and designed a large number of posters during the 1950s and 1960s. Their style, with its bright colors and simplified, deceptively naive forms, is immediately recognizable; most of their female characters are inspired by Brigitte Bardot. The character on this poster is a direct illustration: the reddish-pink hair, large almond-shaped eyes, and slender figure explicitly reference the actress who plays the title role. Their signature appears in capital letters arranged in two arcs forming an oval—LEFOR at the top, OPENO at the bottom—a shape that inevitably evokes the almond-shaped eyes of their characters. Christian-Jaque's 1959 film, produced by Raoul Lévy and distributed by Columbia Pictures, stars Brigitte Bardot in a spy comedy set against the backdrop of World War II. The poster was printed by Imprimerie Hénon, Paris, one of the leading film poster printing houses of the period. The Columbia Pictures logo appears in the lower right corner. The poster has been linen-backed and professionally restored: the center folds have been treated and the corners reinforced; the interventions are discreet and do not affect the legibility of the document.
