“Blood And Sand” Abstract Etching By Daniel Philip Platt

An abstract etching, titled Blood and Sand, by the American artist Daniel Philip Platt. This piece features a bull-like figure and a horse-like figure among other abstract lines and designs. Held in a black frame against a white mat, this piece is signed to the lower right and titled to the lower left. Serving as a US Navy physician during WWII, Platt later went on to study with William Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17 during the 1940s. His work was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, as well as Carnegie Museum. Platt used his engraving skills to learn silversmithing and eventually moved to Taxco, Mexico, to work as a silversmith there. His works are part of the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
