Blossom, A Piece Of 3D Sculptural Cream Leather Wall Art

Blossom:A piece of 3D sculptural wall art designed and made from two layers of cream leather, woven together by Louise Heighes. Measurements are 21 x 21 inches or 54 x 54 cm. This piece of wall art is inspired by the sudden appearance of blossom in the early spring and the way it fly's through the sky. I wanted to re-create the feeling of this with a mass of simple shaped petals running across the leather. Cream textured leather petals on a smooth cream leather background.These artworks are crafted from two layers of sustainably sourced leather meticulously cut and intricately woven together, creating a rich sculptural surface. When installed the 3D nature of the work creates beautiful shadows that add an extra depth to the work.I have always been inspired by the flow and movement which I see in the natural world. Be it a field of wild flowers or the blossom on a tree, I have always loved the way the shape of a single petal or flower can be repeated over again, creating myriad of ever changing new patterns. The importance of simplicity, craftsmanship and creating something by hand is key to what I do.
