Original oil on board by acclaimed American artist Bob Ragland (1938–2021). Executed in 2006, this expressive portrait is part of Ragland’s “Sudan Series,” a body of figurative works inspired by Sudanese subjects. The painting depicts a standing figure draped in flowing white garments and adorned with a bold necklace, rendered with Ragland’s signature impasto technique. Richly textured brushwork and a warm palette of ochres, golds, whites, and subtle blue accents create a dynamic, sculptural surface characteristic of the artist’s work. The work is signed lower right and inscribed “Sudan Series” and dated 2006 on the reverse. Bob Ragland was a celebrated Denver-based artist, sculptor, educator, and author whose work is represented in the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art.
