C1900 French Art Nouveau Botanical Lithograph

Chairish

$215

This is a Beaux Arts Art Nouveau c1900 botanical lithograph by the famed French designer and illustrator, Jules Habert Dys (1850-1925). Habert Dys is known for his fanciful decorative designs for ceramics, wall paper, textiles, vases, etc. His work is intricate and exquisite and reflects Japanese influence at the time. His works are found in museums and library collections worldwide and are also offered at international auctions. This image is one of the numbered plates from his collection known as "caprices decoratifs" which were fanciful and whimsical images. Note the use of gold metallic inks that "drip" from the blossoms and "frame" the botanical itself. Metallic inks were rare and specific to the Art Nouveau-Art Deco periods. Zoom in to see the faint etched-like background sprays of flowers and the highlights of gold-yellow tones in the blossoms. These are delicate and subtle and add interest and beauty to the lithograph. This lithograph is in pristine antique condition with clean borders. It is 9.75 x 13.25 inches in size. Signed in lower right. Makes great wall decor. Works by Habert Dys have become more difficult to find with the passage of time. See others in our shop.
