An original drypoint etching on paper by Sir William Russell Flint, British artist 1880-1969, "Ceres' Handmaid" (Second Plate) 1930, 7 1/2" x 3 1/2", Scene of the nude hand maid holding a sickle, a sheaf of wheat behind her, hand numbered by the artist in the lower left below the plate - XVIII, hand signed - W. Russell Flint - by the artist in the lower right corner below the plate, both number and signature in sepia ink. This is from the edition of 75. Listed in the Wright catalogue number 35. CA number 3942, CA purchased spring of 2024 from a major Scottish auction house. The work is matted with Antique White museum matboard decorative line applied, museum backing, Conservation Clear Glass, framed in 5/8" gloss burl veneer moulding. This drypoint was hand etched by Sir W.R.F. in 1930 and hand pulled. Sir W.R.F. studied at the Edinburgh School of Art and at Heatherley's, London. He was knighted in 1947. His works were exhibited at Agnew & Sons Gallery; the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; the Beaux Arts Gallery; Barbizon House; Chenil and New Chenil Galleries; Cooling & Sons Gallery; Fine Art Society; Grosvenor Gallery; Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Goupil Gallery; International Society; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; Royal Academy, Royal Institue of Painters in Water Colours; Royal Society of Painters-Etchers and Engravers; Royal Hibernian Academy; and six others.
