Chinese Star Gods scroll, colored inks on silk, mounted on a shimmering gold and grey, silk brocade in a floral vines pattern, signed, with a large, red, seal mark and two inscriptions on the upper right in gold kaishu script. The image size is 31" wide x 55.25" high. With a dark brown silk makio and kakio at the top and black jikusaki at the bottom. Circa early Republic of China era, no later than mid century. A masterfully drawn depiction of Three Star Gods with two protectors, including Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from "Journey to the West", and four apsaras, all among the heavenly clouds. The Star Gods and Sun Wukong have halos. Three of the apsaras carry swords while the fourth carries a bow and arrow.
