Comes from a rare First Edition folio of the artist published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1940-1950s. Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 2. Excellent condition - never framed. Overall 9.25” W x 11.9” H Image 8.1” W x 10.75” H This work too numbers among the earliest of Goya’s tapestry cartoons. It belongs to a series painted in the late 1770’s; the tapestries woven from them went to decorate the Dormitorio de los Principes in the royal palace of El Pardo, near Madrid. For each cartoon which he supplied, Goya was paid about 7,000 reals ($350). The face of this guitarist, built up sketchwise in a thick impasto, has already something of the hallucinating quality of Goya’s later work.
