3 - Color Plates from the Ten Bamboo Studio Manual of Calligraphy and Painting (Ming Dynasty) - Chinese - 1952 The Ten Bamboo Studio Manual of Calligraphy and Painting was originally published in the 17th-century. It is the earliest known example of multi-color woodblock printing. The work was compiled and edited by Hu Zhengyan (Hu Chêng-yen) and his studio in 1633. These color plates are from a 1952 collection of a part of these works published by Beechurst Press, New York. The descriptions were authored by Jan Tschichold. Originally there were 16 plates in this collection. Only three remain. They are: Strange Stone Buddha Hand Fruit Plum Blossoms by Moonshine Plates are in the publisher's pale blue boards with paper title label onto front cover. This is in a cardboard slipcase. 16 pages of text. Slipcase very worn and soiled, however a plate is on the cover (Lotus Blossom and Leaf) which could possibly be salvaged. All text blocks are loose but all complete, with some age toning to edges.
