Contemporary Limited Edition Indian Fantail Pigeon Print (40x50") By Brendan Burden

Chairish

$1,750

Portrait of an Indian Fantail pigeon, an ancient breed of fancy pigeon dating back to antiquity. The first reference to a breed similar to the Indian Fantail can be found in Egyptian tomb hieroglyphics. The breed gained its name when it was described by Abul Fazl, friend and minister to Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Empire in 1590. This breed is still considered holy in some villages of India along the Ganges river. This work is part of Brendan Burden's Fancy Pigeons series. This series explores the unexpected and often under-appreciated beauty of the lowly pigeon. Through the use of formal portrait techniques, the pigeon is presented with an esteem normally reserved for less humble subjects. This unconventional contrast provides a new perspective on something many people see every day and give little consideration to. *Signed limited edition of 5 printed on Moab fine art matte paper with archival inks. Print comes with certificate of authenticity and is signed and numbered in verso.
