Cy twombly was one of the artists who realized an original artwork for this important event. Twombly referenced the ancient origins of the games by using the same characteristic scrawl that he had previously used for his 1976 series “six latin writers and poet”. Cy twombly's work is a direct reflection of the ancient greco-roman past that surrounded him in his chosen home in rome. At first sight, his work his work, mainly graffiti-like scribbles and scratches may look childish. But it is nothing of the kind, and the result of a brilliant man, with a sophisticated technique. From drawings with crayon and house-paint, to experimentation with symbols and numbers, to collage, to paint dripping, cy twombly experimented a lot of different techniques. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
