Cyrus Afsary (Iranian/American, b. 1941), pair of portraits oil on canvas, both signed at lower right, the portrait of a woman is further annotated "Tehran" under the signature, mid-1960s, framed with linen liners. Afsary was an Iranian born artist who trained in the Russian Realist style and was influenced by the Saqqakhaneh school. He began his art instruction at the age of 15 already earning money by selling commissioned portraits. In the years to come, he would create portraits of celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Sylvester Stallone, and Dean Martin. Afsary fled to the United States after the Iranian Revolution and moved to Nevada where other family members had settled. He spent some time in Vegas where he created a large mural for the MGM Grand Hotel. Afsary ultimately moved to Tempe, Arizona where he established his home and studio and worked until his death in 2025. Dimensions: With frames 35 1/2 x 27 inches (each) Condition: Areas of craquelure, some with lifting paint; yellowing to varnish; minor rubbing and staining to frame and liner.
