$256

The SIege of Rome is an original modern artwork realized in the first decades of the 19th Century by the French artist Denis-Auguste-Marie Raffet (Paris, 1804 - Genoa, 1860). Original B/W Lithograph on paper. Titled on the lower central margin. Passepartout included (dimension: cm 36 x 50). Excellent condition. The Siege of Rome depicts several soldiers on their horses with the typical armors. On the background the figures are only sketched and, on the lower part we can see the ground full of greening grass. The work has been realized by the French artist Denis-Auguste-Marie Raffet (Paris, 1804 - Genoa, 1860). He was a pupil of J. Gros and especially of Charlet, who initiated him to the new technique of lithograph, of which Raffet made his favorite art. Draftsman of the Napoleonic epic, he was able to move the masses of soldiers and squadrons that parade around the emperor with incomparable art. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
