This beautiful example of early to mid 1900's Expressionism of a French coastal town is both signed and dated by the artist (1931). Though we are unable to identify the artist, this recent curation most likely yields from the southern region of Provence in France. The bold strokes and color vibrancy are of particular note in this drawing. Expressionism is a modernist movement originating in Northern Europe around the beginning of the 20th century This term refers to the movement which manipulates the visual elements of an image to convey intense subjective feelings.
