This 19th C portrait of John Newman depicts a kindly, intelligent man of some means. The inscription on the back reads "For Rachel, John Newman had a defect in his left check", we have to chuckle at this description of his dimple. The oval frame is original to the portrait and shows signs of wear commensurate with its age.
