Fabulous Signed Framed Oil on Board by Noted Artist Charles A. Fries (1854 -1940) Gorgeous neutral shades highlighting the bucolic lake and mountain scene. Entitled “Morena Lake” Painted en Plein Air. Signed C.A. Fries lower right. Shades of taupe grey, oatmeal and various greens ranging from pale to olive, surround a pristine blue lake. Fabulous Art Deco gold leaf frame in excellent condition. Measuring 25.875”w x 1”d x 21.875” Excellent vintage condition. Charles A. Fries was an important California plein air painter who was referred to as the Dean of San Diego artists, from the time he settled in that city in 1897. His reputation was based on magnificent atmospheric desert, water and mountain landscapes. He studied and painted in New York City and Paris before ultimately moving to San Diego. He was a Founder of the Associated Artists of San Diego, President of the San Diego Art Guild, Laguna Beach AA, La Jolla AA and California Art Club. During his lifetime, he exhibited his paintings across Europe and the U.S. His art continues to be treasured by museums, institutions and collectors across the globe. Morena Lake is located in east San Diego County at 3,000 feet above sea level, encompassing lake, desert and mountain scenes.
