Offered is an early 20th Century, possibly late 19th Century, photograph of Venice's San Polo river/canal and architecture by Domenico Anderson (1854-1938). Domenico Anderson was the eldest son of James Anderson, 1813-1877, a British pioneer photographer who established a studio in Rome, Italy, and passed his passion for photography and studio to Domenico. The medium is albumen silver print, Photographic technique: N silver gelatin dry negative. The image is stamped "22870 - VENEZIA - Rio S. Polo" and "Anderson Roma", their studio. It also states "Ripr. Int.", which we believe stands for Riproduzione Interna, an in house print of this image. This piece is from a series done by Domenico in Venice in 1901. We have had this piece re-matted and re-framed in a vintage teak wood frame. The frame measures 19.125" wide, 25" long, .75" deep, visible image is 11" x 16.25" Actual image is 11.3125" x 16.8125" Getty entry for James Anderson: Born 11 March 1813; died 27 February 1877. Anderson was born Isaac Atkinson, assumed the name William Nugent Dunbar as a painter, and then the name James Anderson as a photographer in Rome. Anderson settled in Rome in 1838 and began photographing in 1849, producing views of Rome and of sculptures and paintings.
