William McGregor Paxton (American, 1869-1941) Oil On Canvas, Portrait Of A Lady.Signed W. M. Paxton lower right. An impressionist style portrait of a middle aged lady wearing a long pale blue dress and seated on a slip covered sofa. Beautiful piece. With a stippled blue and brown wallpaper in the background. William McGregor Paxton was an American painter and instructor who embraced the Boston School paradigm and was a co-founder of The Guild of Boston Artists. He taught briefly while a student at Cowles Art School, where he met his wife Elizabeth Okie Paxton, and at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston. A calling card on verso: Mrs. Charles Francis Morgan, possibly the identity of the sitter. 24 x 20" good condition, gilt frame 33 x 28 1/4" good condition
