An original watercolor on paper painting by Harry Tittensor, British artist 1887-1942, "The Market Place, Quimperle (Western France)" scene of two women standing over market goods, a group of people to the left and a second group to the right in front of two white washed buildings, 12 1/4" x 10 1/4", signed H. Tittensor in the lower right corner front, inscribed on an old label from the original frame - The Market Place, Quimperle, original wash drawing by J. (sic) Tittensor R.I., CA number 3972, CA purchased spring 205 from a southern England auction house. The work probably dates to the 1920's or 1930's. The painting has been surface cleaned, reframed with 8 ply White Museum matboard, lined, Museum Glass, museum backing, and 3/4" Newcomb Macklin antiqued Italian reproduction moulding. Tittensor was a watercolor, landscape and figure painter with an address in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, UK. He was elected in 1931 to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Hie exhibited at the Fine Art Society; the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; the Royal Academy; the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
