This set of nine (9) vintage original lithographs (not offset) from the 1983 authorized facsimile edition of Henri Matisse's "Jazz Portfolio" depict abstracted images inspired primarily by the circus. . Originally created in 1947 when Matisse was in his 70's, "Jazz" is one of the finest and most famous examples of Matisse's cut-out work. In 1983, publisher George Braziller, the Estate of Henri Matisse and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) collaborated to create a special authorized edition reproduction of Matisse's Jazz portfolio which included reproductions of the beautiful original pochoirs by Matisse that were included in the 1947 portfolio. This authorized 1983 edition was printed in Munich, Germany. The colophon and publishing history are included in the photo array and may be printed out if desired to affix to the reverse of the images when framed. Great for a huge wall treatment or several smaller groupings. Titles are as follows: "The Cowboy" "Forms" "Destiny" "The Lagoon 3" "The Swimmer in the Aquarium" "The Lagoon" The Lagoon 2" "The Heart" "The Knife Thrower" Copy no. 43 of the original portfolio was used in the making of these MOMA reproductions. These are the finest reproductions available, with bold and true colors, for this highly desired portfolio of Matisse.
