Embrace is a splendid sketch for an illustration of the French artist, stylist, decorator, illustrator Adolphe Giraldon. This is a small artwork in ink and tempera in excellent conditions of preservation realized on tissue paper and then applied on straw-like paper measuring 9.7 x 9.5 cm. The artwork represents an embrace between a male figure wearing a large mantle and a laurel helmet, perhaps a deity, and a female figure, smaller, with the veil and clothes in an ancient style. Behind them, a tree and the sun. Adolphe Giraldon was an expert bijou and furniture designer, as well as a talented weaver and book illustrator. This meaningful sketch, beautiful in the drawing and in the strokes, could refer to an illustration for one of the many books that the French artist decorated. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
