Located in the city of Beauvais, about 50 miles north of Paris, the cathedral is famously known as one of the tallest Gothic cathedrals ever built. Roth was renowned for his finely detailed architectural etchings of European and American cityscapes, and his works are held in major collections including the National Gallery of Art (which holds this piece specifically), the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
