Erno Erb was born in 1890 in Lviv. He lived in Lviv and for some time in Truskavets. He was self-taught, but he achieved great skill in painting. He drew with pastels, and most often he painted oil compositions with a rich, thick texture, which critics compared with the paintings of Max Libermann. Erb painted rural motifs, characteristic types of Ukrainian peasants and Jews, portraits, still lifes and landscapes. In the interwar period, Erno Erb exhibited at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Lviv and in Warsaw, and in 1929 he took part as an artist not associated with the General National Exhibition in Poznan. His works are in the National Museum in Krakow, the collections of the Jewish Institute in Warsaw, the Historical Museum in Krakow, the Museum of Ukrainian Art in Lviv, and the Lviv Picture Gallery.
