Chairish

$525

An abstract etching by the French artist Germaine Richier (1902-1959). Titled "Femme au visage (Woman With Face)," this abstract work depicts a nude female figure standing next to an abstracted human face. Signed to the lower right, the print is numbered 53/220 to the lower left and is displayed in a wooden frame and a white mat. Born in Grans, France, Richier was primarily known as a sculptor and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montpellier. Between 1926 and 1929, she trained in the studio of Antoine Bourdelle where she met Alberto Giacometti, who was also training there at the time. In 1936, Richier won the Prix Blumenthal and a medal of honor for a work shown at the 1937 Paris International Exposition. Her works were also exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair and the 1950 Venice Biennale.
