This framed pair features two delicate marine algae / seaweed subjects: Sporochnus pedunculatus and Laurencia tenuissima. The plates retain their printed Latin captions and plate numbers, with approximate issue dates of c.1799 for Sporochnus pedunculatus and Feb. 1, 1808 for Laurencia tenuissima. The fine branching forms, restrained palette, and early natural-history engraving detail give the pair a refined coastal, library, garden-room, or botanical-gallery presence. Presented together in a double-window mat within a painted wood frame. The piece has been newly matted and mounted using archival materials and reversible methods, with no adhesive applied directly to the prints.
