Elegant gold wood frames with chocolate matting (two smaller portraits are double-matted) framed with UV museum glass. These were produced from Hans Holbein the Younger's (German, Augsburg 1497/98–1543 London) drawings in King Henry VIII's court. Portrait subjects include: Phillip Hobbie Knight (Sir Philip Hoby), (1505 – 31 May 1558), was a 16th-century English Ambassador to the Holy Roman Empire and Flanders. He spent two periods of his life in England (1526-8 and 1532-43), portraying the nobility of the Tudor court. Holbein's famous portrait of Henry VIII (London, National Portrait Gallery) dates from the second of these periods. 'The Ambassadors', also from this period, depicts two visitors to the court of Henry VIII. 'Christina of Denmark' is a portrait of a potential wife for the king. About Francesco Bartolozzi: The engraver and painter Francesco Bartolozzi was a Founder Member of the Royal Academy who served as an engraver to the King for almost 40 years. He engraved works by several of his fellow Royal Academicians, including Angelica Kauffman, Benjamin West, and Joshua Reynolds. Bartolozzi was born in 1727 and trained in his native Florence before moving to Venice. There, he spent six years working for the engraver and printseller Josef Wagner before setting up his own workshop.
