André DERAIN (1880-1954), Original Etching titled The Glory of Paris: The Mermaid of the Pont Neuf, 1937. This impression on Canson et Montgolfier wove paper was printed in 1937 in an edition of 500 unnumbered copies for the "Paris 1937" portfolio. Printed at the atelier of Jean-Gabriel Daragnes, this art and literary album celebrated Paris in 1937, with original etchings from important artists of the time, and essays from leading writers. Signed in the plate, not hand-signed. André Derain was known for his vibrant and expressive paintings, particularly during the Fauvism movement, which he co-founded with Henri Matisse. Dimensions: Plate size: 10.375” W x 13.375” H with narrow margins (as published) Sheet size: 10.5” W x 13.5” H Framed: 17.25” W x 0.5” D x 20.25” H In very good condition considering age and history.
