Gen Paul, Portrait, 1970s, Pencil Drawing

Chairish

$977

Drawing 64.00 cm. x 49.00 cm. 25.2 in. x 19.29 in. (paper) Handsigned by the artist in pencil Certificate of authenticity Graphite pencil on paper This portrait seems less to represent a specific individual than to embody a condition. The face, constructed through a play of bold lines and silences, evokes a man who is wavering and fragile, yet possessed of inner strength. After having to relearn how to paint in 1929, Gen Paul found in drawing a space of radical freedom, where gesture took precedence over academic mastery. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
