Known for its spiritual and emotive content, the series combines themes of human suffering, redemption, and dignity with Rouault’s signature expressionist style. This work features a monumental, sculptural figure rendered in bold chiaroscuro, conveying intense emotional weight and physical presence. Rouault’s masterful technique and somber palette echo religious iconography and the pathos of classical tragedy. From a private collection. Dimensions: 31”h x 24.5”w x 2”d (framed). Georges Rouault (1871–1958) was a leading French expressionist whose works are held in major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Louvre, and the Tate Modern. The Miserere series is widely regarded as one of the 20th century’s most profound achievements in printmaking.
