Gustav Adolf Friedrich 1824 Dresden – 1889 ibid. 'Portrait of a blond-haired toddler in a blue suit with an apple(?) in its right hand' Watercolor and pencil on sand-colored laid paper, matted, framed Signed, located, and dated lower right ("Dresden, November 10, 1851") Size: 28.9 x 24.7 cm (sheet) or 27.6 x 23.7 cm (image area) or 37.5 x 33.6 cm (frame) ____________________________ Gustav Adolf Friedrich Painter, draftsman. Son of Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840). 1840–46 Studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (under Ludwig Richter, Friedrich Matthäi, Ferdinand Hartmann, Carl Christian Vogel von Vogelstein, and Johann Karl Ulrich Bähr). His wife, Caroline Therese, née Lehmann (1828–1914), and son, Harald (1858–1933), were also artists. The family undertook numerous study trips to places including Venice, Paris, Denmark, Tyrol, Upper Bavaria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Exhibitions: 1841: First participation in an exhibition at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. Subsequently, numerous participations in the Academy's exhibitions. 1889: Memorial and posthumous exhibition at the Saxon Art Association, Dresden. 1906: Represented in the "Exhibition of German Art from the Period 1775–1875," National Gallery, Berlin.
