Kwan Im from Buddhist traditions sits atop a large lotus leaf with a corona of fire circling her head. Known by many as the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, Kwan Im is depicted here displaying the Karana Mudra in her right hand to ward off evil, with a jar of divine water cradled in her left hand. A Bodhisattva is one who has achieved a state of enlightenment akin to Buddha, but who refuses nirvana in order to help the people of their world.
