Mazzotti origin albisola period early 20th century brand mazzotti albisola giuseppe mazzotti, known as bausin, was born into a family of potters in albissola marina on november 17, 1865. At a very young age, he worked as an apprentice at nicolò fornari's ceramic tableware factory in albisola capo. After a few years, he was hired as a potter at the bonfiglio factory in livorno. Later, still working as a potter, he moved to naples, where he worked at the workshop that the piccone family from albisola had opened in the neapolitan capital. Back in albisola, he worked as a potter in nicolò poggi's kiln under the direction of luigi quaglino. In 1893, he married caterina gerbino promis. The couple had three children: torido in 1895, tullio in 1899, and vittoria in 1907. In 1903, he set up his own business, opening a workshop called fabbrica di ceramiche d'arte tradizionali e moderne di giuseppe mazzotti (giuseppe mazzotti's traditional and modern art ceramics factory), later simply known as m.g.a., in vicolo del pozzo garitta in the center of albissola marina. Three years later, he won a gold medal at the savona craft exhibition for some of his works. His work, and especially that of his sons tullio and torido, who collaborated with him in the factory, received numerous awards in italy and around the world. In paris in 1935, he won the grand prix. The workshop continued to enjoy great success and became famous both for its avant-garde production and for counting among its collaborators the most important artists and ceramists working in albisola. With the second world war, the factory was forced to close and in 1944 giuseppe mazzotti died, as a displaced person, in san michele di mondovì. materials hand-painted majolica dimensions ø 40 cm p 3.5 cm condition the plate is in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos.
