Helen Frankenthaler ( 1928 - 2011 ) is an American Abstract Expressionist painter of a liberal Jewish background, and is a major contributor to the history of Postwar Modernist painting. She exhibited her work for over six decades, spanning several generations of Abstract painters while continuing to produce vital and ever changing new art works. Her work has been the subject of several major retrospective exhibitions including The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Jewish Museum, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
